Karoo2 Coast is a Mountain bike event where you cycle from Uniondale to Knysna. It is about 100km and it can take between 4 hours for the fast people to about 8 hours for the slower rides. It is not an easy ride, but very much a ride that all mountain bike rides should consider. Well getting back to us…

Dewald and I arrived at Uniondale on Saturday late afternoon. We registered and went to spend the night with friends who also did the ride the next morning. After a braai just as South Africans can do it; we all deliberated a bit on the next morning and the race that we would be taking on. We had a few nervous laughs and jokes…

Sunday morning at 05h00 we we’re all up and running getting things ready. We all have our little things we eat, drink and do before a race. I must say, I think for somebody looking from the outside seeing us running around in the morning before a race, must be very amusing. At 06h00, the bikes, the gear, the food, the drinks, everything was ready as well as us. Off we went. The vehicles were all very quiet as we drove to the starting line.

We arrived at the start of the race. Dewald and I had some time on hand and took the opportunity to just take it all in and reflect on why we are doing it. We took some pictures and embraced the moment. At just after 08h00 4500 mountain bike riders took off on this journey of 100km.

With many up and downs along the way (mentally and physically), we arrived at Knysna in just over 5 hours. It was an amazing race. The weather was great and the atmosphere at the end of the race was also incredible. Once we arrived at the end the congratulations started to come in one after the other. The donations of R100 also started pouring in. Dewald and I are overwhelmed with the support from all parts of the country.

Thank you for everybody who followed us on the road to Uniondale, to Knysna and all the way back to Citrusdal again. Thank you for all the donations, congratulations and just all your support.  BUCKET OF HOPE – EMBRACE YOUR DREAMS!!!!!!
